A specialist civil contractor tendered for a large government infrastructure project before realising that their safety systems were not up to scratch.
Client challenge
An expert salvage operator with significant experience managing complex cultural heritage projects, was awarded a large government contract; however, before sign-off, was required to make significant changes and improvements to their OHS Management System and Health and Safety Consultation Plan (HSCP) to demonstrate to the department (the client) adequate safe systems of work to manage the projects risks. The contractor was like many in his position – qualified and competent at what they do, time poor and computer illiterate.
Risk Strategies solution
Working closely with the Company Director, Risk Strategies:
Worked to a tight deadline to develop and submit a compliant HSCP to the client.
Developed SWMS, SOP’s and other supporting documentation.
Documented the project risk register.
Implemented a ‘Spot Check’ contractor site inspection program, checking contractor compliance with SWMS and standards.
Impact on client’s business
Risk Strategies worked to a very tight deadline to assist the contractor across the line, so that the contract could be signed to commence work. As a direct result of our involvement, advice and support to the project director, the project commenced on time, without delay and the clients expectations for on-site OHS management were met.
