For 26 years, ECMS has provided high quality and inclusive early learning and care to Melbourne families. With more than 60 kindergarten and childcare centres across Melbourne, the organisation engaged Risk Strategies to assist with managing employee injuries, return to work programs and workers compensation claims.
Working as an extension of the ECMS team, our role initially focussed on relieving the burden on internal resources while improving injury management processes and outcomes. At a practical, day-to-day level, this required our consultant to:
Manage work-related and non-work-related injuries.
Meet with injured employees and Centre Directors.
Development of return to work programs.
Manage cases, obtain regular medical updates and conference with GPs.
Reach out to injured workers.
Proactively review and manage return to work programs.
Manage workers compensation claims, develop claim strategies and attend insurer claim review meetings.
Ensure claim management strategies are actioned with the insurer effectively.
Provide WorkCover and injury management support and advice to Centre Directors and Area Managers.
When ECMS appointed a Workplace Health & Safety Business Partner, our consultant’s hands on experience and case knowledge proved to be a valuable asset.
Sharing knowledge, observations, experiences and learnings from within the organisation, our consultant supported the partner in developing and implementing strategic initiatives to improve injury and claims outcomes. These included:
Improvement of internal WorkCover and injury management processes.
Selection and implementation of Elumina, a dedicated injury management system.
The appointment of and transition to a new insurer.
Over the course of two years, the combined effect of more effective and efficient injury and claims management and the WHS Business Partner’s strategic initiatives and operational improvements allowed ECMS to:
Halve the number of open, active claims.
Reduce the organisation’s WorkCover insurance premium through improved claims performance.
